18 August 2010 - Speedier purchases under new arrangement

Government ministries and departments can now bypass the old process of issuing quotations and tenders for purchasing selected information technology (IT) equipment following the appointment of five local IT companies to supply the equipment.

The IT equipment used by government agencies will be standardised under the two-year contract for outright purchases and three-year contract for leasing, signed between the E-Government National Centre (EGNC) and the IT companies.

Among the selected IT equipment included in the central procurement arrangement are PCs, tablet PCs, notebooks, printers and scanners.

Director of EGNC Hj Azhar Hj Ahmad said that the centre had learned about the difficulties faced by several government departments when acquiring items and equipment in the past.

He said that the centre had always wanted to integrate all the government ministries and agencies to use standard IT equipment.

The director signed the contract on behalf of EGNC, while the appointed companies are Unitek Co, ZNet Technologies, Ishajaya Technology Sdn Bhd, ELITE Computer Systems Sdn Bhd and BS Syscom (B) Sdn Bhd.

02 August 2010 - Going local as a way to stand out

Who doesn't dream of being their own boss? Some people make that leap from having a steady monthly income, to taking the risk of starting their own business, which may or may not pay off.

Elvin Hii, chief executive officer of Ishajaya Technology Sdn Bhd, took the risk and grew his business to a multi-million dollar business in a span of a little over two years.

Hii knew that the key to the success of his IT Company was to stand out among other players in the highly competitive industry, which is why he focuses on developing local talent to ensure that customers don't have to depend on experts from either Singapore or Malaysia.

What for, when the problems can be solved in Brunei, he insists.
