06 June 2012 - Bru-HIMS will bring better efficiency to Brunei Healthcare

The Ministry of Health is to deploy a new information technology and management system called Bru-HIMS across public hospitals and healthcare centres in the country, which will help reduce waiting time for patients, among other benefits.

"Brunei Darussalam Healthcare Information and Management System, or Bru-HIMS in short, is Brunei Darussalam's eHealth programme which focuses on strengthening the healthcare systems by improving the medical and health services and the management of hospitals, health centres, treatment centres and clinics, through the provision of relevant and current data to clinical disciplines, professional services and administrative teams. Bru-HIMS will enhance integration of different levels of healthcare and bring healthcare services towards better efficiencies," said Pg Hjh Saadiah binti Pengiran Muda Hj Hashim, Acting Director of Health Technology Department at the Ministry of Health yesterday during the Bru-HIMS User Symposiums at Jerudong Polo Club.

With Bru-HIMS, doctors and allied health professionals will gain access to real-time patient medical information at the point of care. Waiting time will be reduced, nursing team will be relieved significantly from paper-related chores, and all these will result in better management of resources and inventory, hence creating the much needed time to have a more strategic review on the overall healthcare system in an effort to achieve the vision and mission of the Ministry of Health.

She stressed that "the next few months will be critical to the functional leads, key users and the rest of our team members".

"I would like to thank you all in advance for your great contribution and sacrifice in bringing Bru-HIMS closer to reality. We will be depending on your determination and commitment to endure what will be a challenging period. And I am confident that we will be able to complete the tasks entrusted to us," Pengiran Hajah Saadiah commented.

"Finally; I'd like to express my appreciation and gratitude to Dr Fazilah Shaik Allaudin from Malaysia's Ministry of Health and Mr Byron Phillips from Computer Systems Corporation in Australia for their part today. Last but not least, to Ishajaya Technology Sdn Bhd, your continuing commitment in ensuring the success of Bru-HIMS is crucial, and for that we thank you."
